Submissions

Spirit Light Books does not mass produce just any book sent to us. To us, quality of message is number one, followed closely by authentic voice and style. Make us laugh, make us cry, and most of all make us understand God in a new and deeper way. If you do that, you have a great shot at being published through Spirit Light.

The publishing relationship follows a flexible pattern but is based on the following steps:

1) Submission by Author

2) Acceptance of a working relationship by Spirit Light

3) Working to help the author bring the most from a ms.

4) Decision by both Spirit Light and Author to continue the relationship into publication

5) Publication

6) Marketing and Sales

It is important to note that we are a bridge between traditional publishing and self-publishing. That means that the costs of production will be shouldered by you, the author. We do everything in our power to keep those costs reasonable. At present, a typical set-up of $350.00 is a good estimate, though each book is different.

The $350.00 covers the cover design and global distribution package through lulu (author is responsible for copyright although we will walk you through that process as well). Upon publication, you can purchase copies of your book (discounts start at 26 copies) or you can simply make the book available through the Spirit Light website. Once your book is set up in our system, you make all profits until you have broken even. Only at that point does Spirit Light get paid (1/4 of all profits after that point).

Our goal is to see each of our authors be as successful as possible. We share marketing tips and ideas upon publication. We will give input on websites, blogs, etc. You will be an author on our blog. However, we do not endeavor to get your book into bookstores. If you want to do that, we will work with you, but it is up to each individual author to do so.

There is no need to have an agent. We are glad to receive submissions directly from the author at Open Submission Times (determined solely at our discretion).

If you are interested in submitting your work, please fill out the form below, and a notice of Open Submissions Call will be sent to everyone interested when submissions come open. In the Open Submission Call, we will state how many manuscripts we will accept at that time. It will be first-come, first-serve, and subject to acceptance by Spirit Light. (i.e. just because you get a submission in, that doesn't mean it will automatically be accepted).

We will consider most Christian genres, but we are partial to romance and fiction that does not fit into easy categories.
